Welcome back to a short week! As we fall into the cold weather of November its important to make sure our kids stay healthy during this winter season. Remembering to wash our hands and sanitize before and after eating or playing will cut down on germs being passed along in the classroom and at home. Please also help out our classroom by donating disinfecting whips such as Clorax Wipes and tissue paper such as Kleenex. These are consumables that students use and share in the classroom daily. Your donations are greatly appreciated!
It has also come to my attention that some students are not showing their parents the weekly newsletter that is sent home every Monday. Please sign your child's agenda to let me know you have read this news letter. Its important that parents are always informed as to what is happening in the classroom in order to ensure a successful school year for each child. A copy of the newsletter is also available at our online virtual classroom www.ais6thgrade.weebly.com
During last week's ELA Writing Week, students completed their Book Reviews based on the independent books they read the week before. Students worked hard to complete and publish their writing on the class website. Please take a minute to check out your child's work and leave them a comment at www.ais6thgrade.weebly.com. This week in ELA, students will focus on reading a short independent story and will work independently to comprehend the overall meaning and theme as they try to describe how the particular story unfolds and how the characters respond to that change.
This week in Math, students will learn about percents. Students will than work on percents by learning how to estimate a percent through the use of mental math. Students will also learn how to convert percents into decimals and fractions. There will be a Math Assessment on Wednesday November 6th on lessons learned during Week 9. All lessons can be found, viewed, and reviewed on the class website under the Math tab ( www.ais6thgrade.weebly.com ). Students are encouraged to review the material before the test. Students should also be reviewing their multiplication and division facts nightly. Students struggling in basic division and multiplication will only fall behind in 6th grade. Extra practice division and multiplication worksheets will be sent home this week.
